Who we are
This website, starholidaysonline.com, is operated by StarHolidays ("we", "us"). You can contact us about privacy through our contact page by choosing "A privacy request" or by emailing the address shown there.
What we collect
When you read our site. Our articles set no cookies of their own. Like most websites, our hosting systems may keep standard server logs, which can include your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. We use them for security and to keep the site running.
Visitor statistics. We keep our own statistics to understand which pages are useful. For each page view we record the page, the time, the website that referred you, any campaign tag in the link, your site search term, your browser's preferred language, your general device type, browser and operating system, and your country if our hosting network supplies it. We don't store your IP address in these statistics. To count unique visitors without cookies, we create a one-way hash from your IP address, browser details, today's date and a secret key, so the value changes every day and can't be used to follow you from one day to the next. We skip this entirely if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal. These records are deleted after 14 months.
When you contact us. Our contact form collects your name, email address, topic and message. Our contact page also uses a short-lived session cookie, so the form can work securely.
When you use our tools. Our cost estimator runs in your browser. The figures you type in aren't sent to us. Search terms entered on our search page are sent to our server to produce results, and may appear in server logs.
Advertising and Google
We plan to use Google AdSense to show ads. When ads are enabled:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads based on visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' cookies at aboutads.info.
- Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
If you're in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, you should be shown a consent message before personalized advertising cookies are used, and you can change your choice later.
Why we use your information
| Purpose | Data | Basis, where the GDPR or similar laws apply |
|---|---|---|
| Replying to your message | Contact form details | Our legitimate interest in answering you, or steps you've asked us to take |
| Keeping the site secure | Server logs | Our legitimate interest in security |
| Understanding how the site is used | Visitor statistics, described above | Our legitimate interest in improving the site |
| Showing ads | Cookies and identifiers, via Google and partners | Your consent where required, otherwise legitimate interest |
| Meeting legal duties | Whatever the law requires | Legal obligation |
How long we keep it
We keep contact messages for as long as needed to deal with your request, and for up to 24 months afterward in case of follow-up questions, unless the law requires longer. Server logs are kept for a limited period for security purposes.
Who we share it with
We don't sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the site, such as our hosting provider, advertising partners as described above, and authorities where the law requires it. Some providers may process data in other countries, with appropriate safeguards where they're required.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, object to or restrict certain uses, or withdraw consent. You may also be able to complain to your local data protection authority. California residents may also have rights to know about, delete and opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, as those terms are defined in state law. Contact us to make a request. We may need to check your identity first.
Children
This site is meant for a general adult audience and isn't directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you think a child has sent us information, please contact us so we can delete it.
Links to other websites
Our guides link to sources such as government sites. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we aren't responsible for them.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date shown at the top.
